Live shows broadcast in the eastern and central time zones and are tape-delayed on the west coast, including Southern California. In this case it’s referred to as a “west-coast delay.” For countries with multiple time zones, such as the United States, this delay is used to coordinate live broadcasts on different coasts. In many cases the delay is only about seven seconds and is used to correct for things like profanity, bloopers, or violence.
